Sando, the company awarded the project, has been using a new device for mobile elevating work platforms
\nThe construction of Nerja Fire Station, a project co-financed by the Malaga Regional Government and Nerja Town Council, is being carried out using new technology associated with occupational risk prevention which has been developed entirely by companies in Malaga.<\/p>\n
For the first time, work on the new Fire Station, undertaken by the construction company Sando, has involved the use of a safety system called \u201cSafePemp\u201d which consists of a device that reduces the risk of accidents at work for those working on Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWP).<\/p>\n
This device is the fruit of an investigative project carried out by Sando, Dtek and Malaga University with finance from the Technological Corporation of Andalusia and \u201cAgencia Idea\u201d. The outcome of this project resulted in the incorporation of electronic elements in the \u201celevating platforms safety basket\u201d which consequently lessens the chance of collisions happening as well as workers falling from heights when working on this apparatus. <\/p>\n
The SafePemp active safety system sends out signals to alert the operator to any potential danger and sends data to those in charge of the building work making them aware the worker is not properly harnessed or when there is a risk of collision. The device uses mobile sensors, radiofrequency and ultrasound waves which are resistant to bad weather, environmental impact or external dangers. The device was patented this summer.<\/p>\n
Work began on Nerja Fire Station at the end of March. The size of the site is 3,631.66 square metres and the project has been allocated an investment of 1,158,696.62 euros by the Regional Government and Town Council.<\/p>\n
