OPTIMA-DONES
Cyber-physical system for the supervision and proactive maintenance of critical IFMIF-DONES systems
The main objective of the OPTIMA-DONES project is to develop a cyber-physical system for the proactive supervision and maintenance of critical IFMIF-DONES systems, in line with the principles of the Maintenance 5.0 paradigm. The system seeks to maximize the operational availability and service life of fusion energy components through the application of advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence, digital twins and cybersecurity.
OPTIMA-DONES was conceived to address this challenge. The technology developed within the project will be based on the creation of integrated contextual digital twins incorporating advanced predictive capabilities, with particular emphasis on forecasting asset failures, detecting cybersecurity breaches and supporting optimal maintenance decision-making.
This approach will facilitate the transition from predictive maintenance to cognitive, proactive maintenance, significantly enhancing the management, reliability and operation of components associated with fusion energy facilities.
The project’s application and demonstration activities will focus on components of the IFMIF-DONES accelerator and lithium loop systems, whose maintenance requires close collaboration between human operators and robotic systems due to exposure to high radiation levels. As a result, the project will culminate in the development of a demonstrator known as Operator 5.0, which will explore a cyber-physical and symbiotic relationship between humans and machines based on explainable and cognitive artificial intelligence.
