Sando Conservación y Energía intervenes in the disinfection of the Port of Granadilla after the evacuation of the MV Hondius vessel

The company activates a special operation to guarantee health safety and restore activity in the port of Tenerife

Sando Conservación y Energía has carried out a special cleaning and disinfection operation in the Port of Granadilla de Abona (Tenerife) after the evacuation of passengers from the cruise ship MV Hondius, in which an outbreak of hantavirus was detected.

As the concessionaire of the cleaning service in the ports managed by the Port Authority of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the company activated a reinforced device since May 8, after a coordination meeting with the Port Authority, in which it was requested both to reinforce the exterior and Interior cleaning and the logistical support for the development of the operation.

Disinfection of the critical area

The intervention, following the protocol set by the Ministry of Health, focused on areas considered critical, especially in the area enabled for the disembarkation and transfer of passengers.

The works included the disinfection of the pontoon, the berthing norays, as well as tents, fences and the set of provisional infrastructures installed during the management of the emergency. Likewise, action was taken in indoor and outdoor spaces such as the advanced command center, press room, areas for authorities and areas with chemical toilets.

During the days following the evacuation of the vessel, Sando Conservación y Energía reinforced the cleaning work by flushing and spraying disinfectant products, using specialized machinery such as sweepers and sulfation equipment. The action concluded with a comprehensive mechanical sweep of esplanades, berthing lines and Roads of the port, allowing normality to be restored in port activity in a short period of time.

The device also included the reinforcement of human and technical teams, as well as collaboration in auxiliary logistics tasks, such as the transfer and assembly of fences, tents and containers for Waste segregation, in addition to the installation of ten chemical toilets for the people who participated in the operation coordinated by the authorities.

With this action, developed in coordination with the competent bodies, Sando Conservation and Energy demonstrates its capacity to respond in highly demanding situations, as well as its experience in technical cleaning and disinfection services in complex environments.
