Sando has built the new logistics facilities for Mayoral Moda Infantil in the Intelhorce industrial park in Malaga. The warehouse has a surface area of 15,600 square meters and a façade height of 20 meters.

The project, designed by the renowned architect Rafael Urquiza, includes a unique design inspired by the textile industry, which is especially represented in the 13,500 square meter exterior façade: made of zinc sheeting lacquered on both sides, fretted and micro-perforated, assembled as arches projected inward, like “ruffles”.

The metal structure of the building was built with 1,900 tons of steel in tubular sections, arranged as three-dimensional trusses, for the assembly of which 160-ton mobile cranes were used with a boom height of over 90 meters.

The interior of the warehouse has a clear height of 17 meters and 2,700 square meters of mezzanine, a 14.5-meter spiral staircase for access to the roof. It also has an interior facade of 9,000 square meters made of polycarbonate. The 800-square-meter exterior surroundings of the warehouse have been landscaped and 3,500 square meters of prefabricated paving stones have been laid on the sidewalks.

In the execution of this project, the BIM methodology was integrated as the backbone of the planning and monitoring of the execution, centralizing all the information and progress in the model, to allow all those involved to have better visibility and better control of the resources and the work.

Legitimized specialization in logistics infrastructures

This new industrial facility complements the renovation of the fulfillment center, which was also carried out by Sando Infraestructuras y Proyectos in 2018—a project that received several accolades, including a special mention at the 2020 Awards of the Malaga College of Architects and a nomination for the 2019 Mies van der Rohe Awards.

The new facility thus completes Mayoral Moda Infantil’s logistics complex in Málaga, a project in which Sando Infraestructuras y Proyectos demonstrates its extensive experience and expertise in industrial and logistics infrastructure.
