Althenia Sando, the company awarded the cleaning and Waste collection contract in Vélez–Málaga, has launched a special summer plan this week, significantly boosting human and technical resources to ensure cleanliness and public wellbeing across all areas of the municipality throughout the summer months.
The Mayor of Vélez-Málaga and head of the Environmental Department, Jesús Lupiáñez, presented the plan alongside members of the cleaning team and newly deployed machinery. Also in attendance were the Deputy Mayor of Torre del Mar, Jesús Pérez Atencia; Deputy Mayor of Almayate, Jesús María Claros; City Councillor for the Historic Centre, Juan Fernández Olmo; Councillor for Culture, Alicia Ramírez; Francisco Álvarez, Regional Manager at Althenia Sando; and Javier Ruiz, Head of Service.
According to the City Council, the operation will run from 16 June to 15 September and includes a 53% increase in staff, from 89 to 136 workers, along with new equipment, extended shifts, routes, and additional services. Key new features of the summer operation include:
The plan is supported by a renewed fleet that includes a brigade truck, a rear-loading collection truck, a flatbed truck, three mini-trucks and a high-pressure washer to boost the cleaning service.
This special summer operation complements the reinforcement plan launched in March, which had already introduced new staff, vehicles, and additional shifts—forming part of a broader continuous improvement strategy for the service.
Both Vélez-Málaga City Council and Althenia Sando expressed their appreciation for the dedication and commitment of the company’s staff and for the collaboration of local residents.
This year’s campaign slogan, “Here, cleanliness doesn’t take a holiday”, reflects the shared goal of keeping Vélez-Málaga cleaner, more cared for, and closer to all its residents.
