Conacon Sando presented its forward-looking solutions for clean, resilient and intelligent mobility through research at the ITS European Congress 2025. This major international event, held in Seville and organised by ERTICO – ITS Europe, is one of the world’s leading forums for sustainable transport infrastructure, attracting extensive international participation.
In this context, Elena Hernández-Pacheco, Head of Innovation at Conacon Sando, took part as a speaker in a technical session with the presentation: “Pavement incident detection systems based on VHR images and artificial intelligence.”
During her talk, Hernández-Pacheco explained how Conacon Sando’s research projects, such as Inspect-Roads and SOTER, are helping to transform the traditional approach to urban and road infrastructure inspection: “Our challenge is to integrate new technologies, such as artificial intelligence, and the results of our innovation projects directly into service management systems.
It’s about transferring knowledge to society.”
She emphasised that the goal of these initiatives is not to replace professionals, but to enhance their role by providing tools that improve the quality, reliability and safety of operations. In this regard, she highlighted that Sando’s 50+ years of experience in the infrastructure sector allows innovation to be applied from a practical and proven perspective.
Hernández-Pacheco also noted that “rethinking inspection through innovation means going beyond asset inventories to integrate other services that deliver added value to both clients and the wider public.” This vision aligns with the company’s Sustainability Master Plan, as it contributes to reducing occupational risks associated with road maintenance and brings environmental benefits by directly lowering the carbon footprint.
Conacon Sando’s participation in this international congress reaffirms its commitment to innovation, Sustainability, and continuous improvement in infrastructure conservation.
