The new provincial headquarters of the National Police in Soria, built by Sando Construcción, has been recognised at the third edition of the Saint-Gobain Awards for Best Sustainable construction Practice in Spain, in the Public Administration category. The award, presented to the project developer, the State Society for Penitentiary and State Security Infrastructure and Facilities (SIEPSE), highlights the project’s strong commitment to Sustainability, energy efficiency and the circular economy.
Located at Number 5 León Street, the new police station has been developed over a total built area of 4,753 square metres, distributed across two interconnected buildings. The project was delivered under stringent quality and sustainability criteria, enabling it to be classified as a Nearly Zero-Energy Building (NZEB). Key measures include maximising natural daylight, the use of sustainable materials adapted to Soria’s climate, and the application of construction techniques aligned with circular-economy principles.
These initiatives made it possible to achieve a four-leaf VERDE certification, awarded by the Green Building Council España (GBCe), as well as the highest possible energy-efficiency rating. During construction, a recycling rate of 97% was achieved, reflecting the project’s strong environmental credentials.
The third edition of the Saint-Gobain Awards, organised in partnership with the Club of Excellence in Sustainability, also highlighted other outstanding initiatives in sustainable construction across Spain. Alongside the project delivered by Sando Construcción, awards were presented to Panattoni Park La Bisbal del Penedès in the Contractor/Developer category; Simon SWITCH in the Architecture Studio category; the Wallinvent demountable wall system as a Startup Project; and Madrid City Council’s Circular Economy Innovation Centre (CIEC), which received a special mention in the Circular Economy category.
With this award, Sando Construcción adds another accolade in the field of sustainability, reinforcing its strategic policies in line with Sando’s Sustainability Master Plan, which sets out the company’s ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) management framework for the next three years.
