The President of the Junta de Andalucía, Juanma Moreno, visited this morning the construction works on the extension of Metro de Málaga’s Line 2 to Hospital Civil, specifically the section between Hilera and Eugenio Gross, which is being carried out by Sando Construcción in a joint venture (UTE).
During the visit, the President was accompanied by the Mayor of Málaga, Francisco de la Torre Prados; the Minister for Public Works, Regional Planning and Housing, Rocío Díaz Jiménez; the Minister for Economy, Finance and European Funds, and Spokesperson for the Andalusian Government, Carolina España Reina; as well as the Executive President of Sando, Luis Sánchez Manzano, alongside other officials and project engineers.
The Director of Infrastructure at the Public Works Agency of the Junta de Andalucía, Manuel Borrego Martín, provided an update on the project’s status, noting that 82% of diaphragm wall works have been completed, with overall progress at 50%. He also highlighted that 90% of utility diversions have now been resolved.
During the visit, the delegation witnessed the operation of several machines on site: a Sando diaphragm wall machine excavating a trench, a drilling rig carrying out preliminary boreholes, and a crane concreting a trench section.
This section is being built entirely underground using the cut-and-cover construction method, extending from the Guadalmedina station—which connects Lines 1 and 2—to Santa Elena street. The full extension of Line 2 will cover a total length of 1.8 kilometres.
