Sando Construcción has been named one of Spain’s ten leading companies in gender equality, according to the third edition of the Equality Ranking compiled by the Woman Forward Foundation. Climbing to ninth position in this year’s ranking—led by pharmaceutical giant Bayer—Sando is the sole representative from the construction sector.
The Foundation acknowledged the company’s efforts over the past year by awarding it the Special Bronze Award for its strides in fostering a fairer and more inclusive working environment.
Sando’s Human Resources Director, Nina Tercero, and technician Malene Pareja accepted the award during the ceremony from Pilar Menor, Senior Partner at DLA Piper. This recognition reflects the company’s significant progress in equality matters, marking a leap of over twenty places in the ranking.
In her remarks, Nina Tercero underscored the strategic importance of leadership commitment in driving change across the organisation: “It’s vital that management teams understand and communicate the concrete benefits of championing equality policies and that these efforts are made visible. Real transformation begins when senior leadership recognises that a company’s reputation is intrinsically linked to its commitment to equality.”
The third edition of the Equality Ranking is based on the Business Index for Equality and Competitiveness—an analytical tool that enables organisations to assess their commitment to equality, pinpoint areas for improvement, and move towards more sustainable and inclusive governance models.
During the event, the Foundation’s President, Mirian Izquierdo, highlighted that advancing female leadership requires more than adopting affirmative action policies. Structural barriers must be dismantled to enable genuine progress: “Organisations are not changing enough—nor quickly enough.”
Sando’s inclusion in the top ten confirms the company’s cross-cutting commitment to equality, which is embedded in policies such as its Equality Plan and its Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Policy.
People lie at the heart of Sando’s strategy, forming one of the three core pillars of its Sustainability Master Plan, which shapes the group’s Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) performance.
Earlier this year, the company received the “ Empresa Malagueña igualitaria y conciliadora” (Equal and Family-Friendly Malaga Company) award —an official recognition awarded by Málaga City Council in acknowledgment of Sando’s active promotion of equal rights and opportunities for women and men.
And in May, Sando Construcción was awarded a Silver Medal by EcoVadis, one of the world’s most reputable platforms for assessing corporate Sustainability performance.
