The laying of the first stone of RTVE’s new Castilla y León Regional Centre marks the start of construction works on a project that will bring together the facilities of Televisión Española (TVE) and Radio Nacional de España (RNE) under one roof at Valladolid’s City of Communication.
Following the preparation of the detailed construction design, Sando Construcción has commenced works on a modern three-storey building that will feature more than 2,700 square metres of total built area.
The ceremony, hosted by Cristina Bravo, Director of RTVE Territorial Services, was attended by Miquel Calçada, RTVE Board Member and Chair of the Regional Centres Committee; Nicanor Sen, Government Delegate in Castilla y León; Ana Álvarez Quiñones, Secretary-General for Agriculture, Livestock and Rural Development of the Regional Government of Castilla y León; and Jaime Rodríguez Donnelly and Francisco Caballero, Sando’s Director General of Construction and Regional Director, respectively.
RTVE’s new Castilla y León Regional Centre will be built on an urban plot of approximately 4,000 square metres. According to RTVE, the facility will include a 124-square-metre television studio, three control-announcer units for RNE—one of them equipped for television image capture—two video editing suites, two recording booths, a large newsroom, and various administrative and technical areas. The building will have a total floor area of 2,785 square metres.
The project is directly aligned with Sando’s Sustainability Master Plan, incorporating environmental commitments through the application of sustainability and energy-efficiency criteria in accordance with the standards of the VERDE Certification issued by the Green Building Council Spain (GBCe). RTVE has set the objective of achieving the highest possible rating: five green leaves.
Sando Construcción has more than 50 years’ experience in the sustainable delivery of landmark buildings. This new project further strengthens the company’s expertise in media-related infrastructure. In Madrid, Sando Construcción also delivered the new production facilities for the Spanish Radio and Television Corporation (RTVE) at Prado del Rey, specifically Studio 6 and Studio 7.
