Sando has supported the local phase of the III Agustín de Betancourt National Bridge Competition, an initiative promoted by the Civil Engineering schools of Spanish public universities and the College of Civil Engineers (CICCP).
In this edition, the competition was held at the Higher Technical School of Engineering of Seville, where students participated in an intense day of design, construction and testing of bridge models made with unconventional materials.
This first phase has brought together teams made up of Bachelor’s and Master’s students, who faced the challenge of building structures that stood out for their lightness, structural efficiency and resistance to load. All the models were made from an identical kit of materials for each team and had to conform to the dimensions established by the rules of the contest: a span of 1.20 meters and a board of 30 centimeters.
The team made up of Ivo Edelaar, Beatriz Sánchez Rodríguez, Elena Rodríguez Lanceta and Sebastián Arias Gil won the first prize and will be in charge of representing the Higher Technical School of Engineering of Seville in the national final to be held in Valencia.
Second place went to the group formed by Mario Valencia Caballero, Pablo Urbano Bomba, Juan Aznar Espinosa and Juan Diego Rodríguez Cabello, while third place went to Néstor Castellano Andrés, Diego Iñiguez Calvo, Francisco Javier Jiménez Barra and Alejandro Lauriño Ruiz.
Sando actively participated in the competition through its engineer and Project Manager in the area of Conservation and Energy, Jorge López, who intervened in the day and was in charge of presenting one of the prizes to the classified teams. With this collaboration, the company reaffirms its commitment to young talent, innovation and the promotion of civil engineering as a driver of progress and social development in line with its Sustainability Master Plan.
