OHLA, a global infrastructure company, and Sando Construcción, through the joint venture that both companies are part of, have been awarded the works of the new Maternal and Children’s Hospital of Huelva, a strategic infrastructure of the Andalusian Health Service that will be incorporated into the healthcare complex of the Juan Ramón Jiménez University Hospital.
The project foresees the execution of a 36,372 m² building, designed to be functionally and architecturally integrated into the current centre and facilitate the expansion of its health services. The works have a budget of 82,640,649 million euros (VAT included).
Once the work is completed, the future hospital will have 125 beds, distributed between the areas of Pediatrics, Obstetrics, Gynecology, Mental Health, ICU and Intermediate Care. Its main facilities include a Neonatology area, Surgical Block, Obstetric Block, Paediatric and Obstetrics Emergencies, as well as a Paediatric and Surgical Day Hospital and various outpatient consultations.
The building will be organised on six levels, combining hospitalisation areas, care areas, technical spaces and a heliport. It also incorporates improvements over the original design in order to strengthen healthcare capacity in key areas.
The Ministry of Health, Presidency and Emergencies of the Junta de Andalucía estimates that the new center will attend more than 64,000 consultations annually, 21,000 pediatric emergencies and 17,000 gynecological or obstetric emergencies.
It should be noted that OHLA and Sando Construcción are also working together in Andalusia on the execution of the New Hospital of Malaga, the largest healthcare project in Spain today. The Virgen de la Esperanza Hospital will have 815 rooms, 48 operating theatres, 80 ICU beds, an emergency area with 31 medical consultations and an outpatient consultation area equipped with 158 rooms for specialties and 38 for nursing.
