Sando Construcción has commissioned the new WWTP in Madridejos after the completion of the execution works of this infrastructure. This ACUAES project exceeds 10 million euros in budget and will contribute to improving the quality of the waters that reach the Las Tablas de Daimiel National Park.
As indicated by ACUAES in a statement, the action carried out by Sando Construcción in a joint venture has consisted of the expansion of the treatment plant for a population of 29,500 inhabitants-equivalent, in addition to the execution of a 451-metre-long outfall collector and a storm tank with a storage capacity of 3,500 m3.
Specifically, a new pre-treatment building, two carousel-type biological reactors and two secondary decanters, as well as a chlorination labyrinth, have been built at the Madridejos WWTP. Sando Construcción has remodelled the entire sludge line, providing the facility with a second dewatering line and has installed a new deodorisation system using activated carbon.
In addition, all the necessary connections have been made along the entire route of the collector with the different collectors that reached the existing WWTP.
The execution of the expansion of this infrastructure allows the complete treatment of the municipality’s wastewater discharges before reaching the Amarguillo River. This improvement directly contributes to the quality of the waters that feed the Las Tablas de Daimiel National Park and links with the Sustainable Development Goals, specifically SDG 6 to guarantee the availability of water and its sustainable management and sanitation for all.
Sando Construcción has carried out this project in line with its Sustainability Master Plan. It concluded the works of the treatment plant in July 2025, then starting the commissioning phase that has concluded at the end of January 2026. Sando Construcción, supported by the group’s company specialising in the Integral water cycle, Sando Agua, contributes to the implementation of actions of high environmental value.
As published by ACUAES, the City Council of Madridejos will now be in charge of the material tasks of operation, conservation and maintenance of the new infrastructures, which comply with the emission limit values stipulated in the Urban Wastewater Directive and in its discharge authorization.
