Sando Construcción, through its line specialising in healthcare infrastructures, has completed the expansion project of the Axarquía Regional Hospital. A strategic intervention that has made it possible to increase the functional spaces of the center and enable new dependencies for health care.
The president of the Junta de Andalucía, Juan Manuel Moreno, has inaugurated the new facilities, stressing that they represent a “leap in quality” in health care in areas such as the Day Hospital, radiology, digestive and the continuity of care unit for chronic patients.
The project promoted by the Junta de Andalucía has allowed Sando Construcción to execute two new architectural volumes for complementary uses to the healthcare activity. The first houses an assembly hall, chapel, offices and training rooms for staff. The second integrates a double cafeteria differentiated for professionals and visitors.
These new spaces have made it possible to free up dependencies to be used for care, in addition to reorganising the exterior routes and making the flow of health personnel independent. Likewise, warehouses and service areas have been set up on the semi-basement floor, reinforcing the internal operation of the hospital.
The intervention has been carried out at the main entrance of the building. The elimination of the old ramp has made it possible to enable a new access at ground level, guaranteeing a more comfortable and direct universal accessibility for patients and visitors.
The space previously occupied by the ramp has been transformed into a covered outdoor area. The improvements in the urbanization of the immediate surroundings have made it possible to reorganize the pedestrian routes and increase the safety, functionality and urban quality of the complex.
As part of the modernisation process, the action has incorporated the renovation of the building envelope by means of an avant-garde ventilated façade system. This construction solution improves the thermal and energy performance of the building, increases the durability of the enclosures and optimises interior comfort.
This intervention contributes to the Sustainability of the complex, enhancing efficiency and reducing its environmental footprint. An action aligned with Sando’s Sustainability Master Plan, the Sustainable Development Goals and the 2030 Agenda.
