Spain’s Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, has inaugurated the headquarters of the National Police’s Central Private Security Unit in Madrid. The project, delivered by Sando Construcción with an investment of €6.4 million, forms part of the State Security Infrastructure Plan 2019–2025.
The new headquarters is located in central Madrid, in the Los Jerónimos-Recoletos district. As reported by the Ministry of the Interior, the refurbishment represented a significant technical challenge. Sando Construcción preserved the original configuration of the façade facing Los Madrazo Street, including architectural areas and elements subject to heritage protection regulations.
The building also features a second façade overlooking the rear courtyard at second-floor level, along with additional internal façades surrounding the inner courtyards. With a total built area of 2,800 square metres, the facility is arranged across a basement, ground floor, five upper floors and a roof level, forming a functional and well-designed architectural complex.
Among the authorities attending the inauguration were the Government Delegate for the Community of Madrid, Francisco Martín; the Director General of the National Police, Francisco Pardo; the President of the State Society for Penitentiary and State Security Infrastructure and Facilities (SIEPSE), Sofía Hernanz; and Luis Sánchez Manzano, Executive Chairman of Sando.
In line with the Sustainable Development Goals, this SIEPSE project required the effective integration of energy-efficiency and circular-economy measures. These included the recovery and reuse of between 50% and 75% by weight of the construction Waste generated during the works.
As a result of compliance with these criteria, Sando Construcción contributed to the project achieving the “three green leaves” certification awarded by the Green Building Council Spain (GBCe), certifying the building as a Sustainable construction.
